Our skilled aesthetician, Kristin Murray, is dedicated to improving and maintaining the healthful appearance of your skin. She is expert in the performance of an array of skin peels, facials, and micro-dermabrasion. These procedures can make a tremendous difference in the appearance of your skin, and she will carefully explain which procedures would be best for you. She will also address the frequency with which they should be performed as part of a program specifically designed for you. In addition, she is able to recommend both medical-grade and over-the-counter skincare products to augment the procedures she, or any of the other practitioners at our office, performs.

Micro-dermabrasion

Micro-dermabrasion is a very popular skin treatment among individuals with mild to moderate skin damage, who wish to preserve and maintain a youthful complexion. It is an FDA-approved treatment which refines the texture of the skin while tightening the layers below the surface. Micro-dermabrasion helps maintain healthy skin and is recommended for the following conditions: age spots, acne scarring, sun damage, uneven skin tone and hyper-pigmentation, improving skin texture, large pores, fine lines and wrinkles, and scar resurfacing.

The micro-dermabrasion process involves brushing the skin with sterile micro-particles, thereby abrading, or rubbing off, the very top skin layer. This is followed by removal of the particles and derm-abraded skin with a special vacuum. Responding to the micro-particle bombardment as an injury, the skin produces fresh cells, thus rejuvenating and restoring its youthful appearance.

This advanced-technology procedure can be performed on all areas of the body and on all skin types, and has the added benefit of causing minimal discomfort and requiring no recovery time. The removal of the dead cells revitalizes the skin and improves its ability to absorb topical skin treatments.

Micro-dermabrasion works best at polishing and softening fine lines and dull skin texture. A regular treatment program, at spaced intervals, helps to achieve and maintain great results.

All micro-dermabrasion machines are not equal with respect to comfort and efficacy. At WMGI we have selected what we believe to be one of the best machines on the market, the Bella Micro-dermabrasion System.

Cosmetic Skin Peels

Skin peels are very effective in warding off the ravages of time on aging skin. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, causing it to separate and peel off. The new, regenerated skin is smoother, tighter, and has a more even color. Peels are beneficial for fine lines and minor skin imperfections, and can be performed as a single procedure or in a series. When combined with a micro-dermabrasion procedure, the results can be even more dramatic.

WMGI’s aesthetician, Kris Murray, performs several types of medical-grade skin peels. Working under a physician’s supervision, the types and strengths of skin peels she is able to offer are much greater than those that are legally permitted in a spa environment. The results are therefore much more pronounced.

Facials

While pleasant and mildly beneficial to the skin, facials generally are significantly less therapeutic for damaged skin than are micro-dermabrasion and skin peels. Typically performed in non-medical spa environments, facials provide an enjoyable, relaxing experience.

At WMGI we emphasize results, while still trying to give you a great experience. Many of our patients, however, are more familiar with facials and feel more comfortable with them. Skin Care Topical Products

At WMGI we want you to have the finest medical-grade skin care products on the market. Kris Murray, our Aesthetician, has reviewed and sampled numerous items from a variety of pharmaceutical companies, carefully selecting those that are highly effective, yet still reasonably priced. These items – often prescribed prior to a procedure and then afterwards to maintain the benefits – can be purchased in our office or at independent pharmacies.
