Endocrinology
Endocrinology is the subspecialty of Internal Medicine involved in the maintenance of health through the evaluation and treatment of hormonal dysfunctions in the body. When hormonal production by the endocrine glands is malfunctioning, the ramifications on all aspects of well-being can be enormous. Our endocrinology division, consequently, takes a very integrated approach to the maintenance and healing of the human body.
For example, type 2 diabetes results from the development of a reduced sensitivity of the tissues to insulin, with the effects of this disorder being manifested throughout the body. Patients with diabetes are at a higher risk for the development of lipid disorders, resulting in more heart disease, extreme difficulty with weight loss, vision problems leading to blindness, compromised circulation to the legs with the development of ulcers, and menstrual irregularities with consequent infertility, among other issues.
At Women's Medical Group of Irvine, all of the complications of diabetes are addressed and every effort is made to provide comprehensive education and treatment of all related medical matters. In similar fashion, all other endocrine disorders are comprehensively evaluated and treated.
Our approach is one in which the patient and the doctor, after an in-depth exploration of the entire medical condition, work together as a team, deciding on the best course of treatment and closely following up to ensure the best possible outcome.
